Of Richard B. Lee and Cyber-Athletes

In a follow up post to "Search for Nerds", i've had a lot to think about, considering I had NO idea the vareity of nerds that existed...and am on the path to figuring out what I want.

Cyber-Athletes - I GUESS this is a new phenomenon. Loads of guys, battling it out on their computers for thousands of dollars and endorsements. I cant BELIEVE that this is the wave of the future...i like Built athletic guys as much as the next girl, but this, doesnt do it for me. And i've decided that THIS isnt the kid of "nerd" i'm looking for. These guys spend 8-12 hours a day playing video games....When would they have time for me??? Never. So, by process of elimination, i've decided that i do NOT want nerds who play 8-12 hours of video games. I want someone i'll actually be able to get out of the house and hang out with....

Richard B. Lee - World famous anthropologist, written many books. Came to my school yesterday and gave a conference on Aids in Africa. I love richard lee, and anyone who's ever taken an anthropology course, and liked it, will completely agree. It was a fascinating lecture, that lasted 2 hours almost....and I enjoyed it immensely....

In realizing that I am somewhat of a nerd myself about world issues, i've ALSO decided that I want a nerd that is interested in world issues....and actually has an opinion.....so i'm looking for an intellect, who's doesnt play video games the entire day. And I think that's a pretty good start.

**I realize that people are tagging me to do those blog surveys, I'll get to them. I promise, dont boycott me. LOL

UPDATE: So i'm in class. this guy sits down beside me, and since i'm on this quest, I'm in the frame of mind to talk to anyone. Well...I opened the floodgates, and asked him something about the online notes that he had...and from then on, he proceeds to ask me a million questions about my very personal life. Once he established what program I was in, and how old I was, class was starting, and he starts to write me notes. First thing he asks? "Are you married." I have no ring on, I cant lie....so he's passing notes to me....asking millions of questions, at which point he thinks its a great idea to ask me on a date. To which I say "you ask too many questions".

Let me say, that I am NOT looking to date this person, I am looking to expand my "friend" circle, and learn about new things....Ugh....You know, i never have any clue when someone is hitting on me...but when they're too agressive, it makes me so uncomfortable.

I believe we have to end apartheid, for one, slow down the nuclear arms race, stop terrorism and world hunger. We have to provide food and shelter for the homeless... and oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights, while also promoting equal rights for women.
We have to encourage a return...
to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general social concern... and less materialism in young people.

Well if you are looking to learn new things...perhaps this man can help you. If you are looking for friends to expand your horizons then why not?

Ok..let me put it to you this way my dear. You're hot. They're desperate.

The very idea that a good looking chic is even breathing in the same vicinity as them is enough to give them dirty dreams for ages.

Ash - because I dont want to give him the wrong impression. And I dont want him to think that i'm interested in him that way.

Linny - YOURE TOO MUCH SOMETIMES. LOL

PP, I think I have all the qualities you are looking for, too bad I'm not a boy and don't live in Windsor, and I guess I could be a little more socially inept, but only a little.

Yes, I wouldnt want to date a broke student either if a millionaire was trying to woo me. I hear ya.

Yrautca - I ditched the millionaire. He turned out to be extremely racist...So I hung up with him, and that was it.

well you two should be a good match then, with him asking lots of questions, just like you "can i ask you something?..."

Oh PP, you get hit on quite a lot. Perhaps you are just super desirable to men. This is your curse.

Nerd or not, there HAS to be some social capabilities!
I mean, who wants to hang out with anyone, friend or otherwise, that is pushy and suffocating?

Ugh.

Oh also, I love Richard Lee, he's the only cultural anthropoligist I like, the only one.

Anonymous - WHO ARE YOU??? LOL. That's SO crazy...you must know something about me...I say that all the time.

Berly - I MAY get hit on...but let me tell you..these men are NOT desirable. Maybe i'm their last resort. LOL

Tai - I LOVE your first comment...insightful and true. LOL!! I couldnt agree more.

Jenny - You would have loved his conference that he gave...I sent you an email about it.

Passing notes in class is hysterical. Are you in 6th grade or something?

Richard Lee's work with the !kung people is immeasurable in value. thats an honor to see him speak: for the things he did to help overturn archaic and horrible perspectives of hunter-gathering people.

and anyone who says hes the only "cultural anthropoligst" they like is a complete dufus. theres many people in that field who do amazing work that help bring light to first-world, ebergy eating, computer geeks blogging it up all day.
