Arent Politics FUN???

*These opinions are TOTALLY my own, feel free to start a healthy debate about them...dont scream at me and tell me i'm wrong...and play nice in the comment section. Although i DO have to say....if you are American, and over 18, and did NOT vote in the last election, I'm not really all that interested in hearing you complain about how much you hate your current president.

With September 11th less than 2 weeks away, Fahrenheit 9/11 has been all over the movie network. When it was on today, it got me thinking about that fateful day 4 years ago...

I wondered how it compared to other significant moments in histroy.....JFK shooting, The Moon landing, Hiroshima, Pearl Harbor....And all I could think of was September 11, 2001, I was working at the YWCA of St. Catharines, as a program coordinator, placing troubled kids in to programs to keep them out of shit....and I was going to my first home visit of the day. I was in my car, and called the office to tell them to turn the radio on because America was under terrorist attack. The entire day went by in a blur, and that night, I sat with my best friend at the time, he wrapped his arms around me, and held onto me really tight. While he snuggled me, he promised me that he wouldnt let terrorists get me. We were both in tears watching the news...unable to believe what we were watching.

Does everyone else remember where they were? As clearly as I do....or is it something you'd rather forget?

After watching Fahrenhiet 9/11 today, I wondered about the last election....I was living in western MA for the past year, but of course, couldnt vote. I watched the results come in....and was horrified that Bush...won again. Actually, He didnt REALLLY win the first time did he???

You know SPEAKING of his first term in office, after 8 months, his popularity dropped from 53% to under 45%...How did this man get RE-Elected? Becuase he attacked a soverign nation, that did nothing but have a large reserve of oil underneath it? Because he spent MORE time vacationing and working on his golf swing, than he did protecting the country?

I dont know. It all seems a little fishy to me. Who thinks that there's another world war coming? And doesnt anyone find it a little odd, that Bush will give press conferences in regardes to the current damage from the hurricane? Granted, it IS a tragedy, and I feel REALLY bad for all of those people who've lost everything, but isnt it ALSO a tragedy that heaps of people have been killed in Iraq, for a war, that didnt ever need to happen?

What about Cindy Sheehan? Didnt she deserve to be heard? Bush too busy to talk to the mother of a 24 year old boy, who died, protecting his country? This is Bush's War!!! Isnt it fair that he thank Cindy Sheehan, and offer his condolence for the son she lost fighting this oil-soaked war? Oh NO...OF COURSE IT ISNT, why would we EVER think Tha'ts important??? LOL!...he's too busy...being on vacation again! Fishing...Napping....having lunch, while people camped outside of his house just to talk to him about peace....PEACE! I suppose, that in order to secure a meeting with the current president, you have to prove that you are in possession of weapons of mass destruction, and are willing to use them.

...I understand that politics are generally a VERY controversial subject....I know that. But I couldnt let it go....As much as you might hate Michael Moore *you crazy republicans*...it's a really good movie, that raises a lot of GOOD questions. And, of course, being a girl, I LOVE answers. There just dont seem to be many out there......

First of all, I hate Michael Moore.

Second, everyone has got their own spin on things..which is cool. As for me, I wonder...what else did everyone expect Bush to do besides retaliate? He was under a hell of a lot of pressure. Yes, I understand it may seem a little childish...like a mom telling her kid "just walk away." But they ATTACKED us. If he hadn't of done something...most likely we'd be having these debates about how he failed to stand up for his country. I know I wasn't thinking calmly. I was at work when 9/11 happened. We rolled the TV into the Waiting room, we all stopped working and watched the news with our patients. My whole body went numb, I got scared because they kept saying other bombs were going off and other planes were crashing. All I could think of was what if they came here to Georgia? Then I started getting mad and I wanted revenge. I'm not saying it's right...it's just how I felt.

it's funny you brought up Farenheit 9/11, cuz with this whole Cindy Sheehan thing, i can't help but wonder where that mom is that was in his movie that went to the white house to talk to Bush about why her son died. Why wasn't she in Crawford? I'm not the biggest Michael Moore fan either but i got to give it to him, he had balls to make that movie. We live a few blocks away from Columbine High School and we still have people driving around with their "We are all Columbine" stickers on their cars. Granted Columbine was no 9/11 but the feeling of disbelief and shock that that kind of shit can happen in YOUR neighborhood is the same feeling i had on 9/11. I woke up in the morning and my brother was watching "Goodmorning America" when the first plane hit, and i just remember him telling me that "the world trade center got hit by a plane." I went back to bed and kinda shrugged it off as some freak accident. When i got back in bed, it fucked with me so i got back up and went and watched t.v. with my brother, and my brother was in total shock cuz he just got back from a vacation in New York like 2 weeks before. He told me that it was election day in New York, and right away he said it was a terror attack, even before the media started to report it as such. Then the 2nd plane hit, and my heart fell to my feet. My mom at the time worked in the City and County building here in Denver, and they sent all the employees home, and my dad who works at the VA hospital (my dad being a Vietnam vet and a heart as big as my head) came home too. The entire day, and the next week we were glued to the t.v. The night i went to bed on 9/11 was the first night i was actually SCARED! You couldn't see any planes in the sky, you didn't hear any helicopers like you normally do every now and then. It was so surreal.
And everything the administration COULD have done to prevent this, and everything they HAVE done up to this point angers me. Our country is so divided. No one person has been fired for anything, we invaded a country that posed NO threat to us. And the fact that the president would even mention 9/11 and Iraq in the same sentence brings me to tears. Why do they have to lie to us like we're little kids that need to be protected. I may be speaking for myself, but damnit, I'm a grown fucking adult i'd like to be told the truth from these republicans for a change, but sadly i know in my heart that will never happen. In america liberals are the enemy, in america you can't tell the truth cuz the right in the country, the Karl Rove fucking Darth Siddious will make sure your life will be a living hell. Look at Joe Wilson, just cuz he came back from Africa with news of NO wmd's in Iraq, they didn't like that so they outted his wife!! I mean i could go on and on about the deceptions the lies, the promoting of hate. I hear John Lennon's "Imagine" and it gives me hope that one day, one day, we will have peace, but in order to have peace we can't have the George Bush's of the world bullying the whole world....

All very good thoughts. I think people, even those who voted the idiot in for a second term, are getting aggravated. I don't care if you are a democrat of a republican, there are just basic things that are going on that point to a bad administration no matter how you slice it. I am just glad that he cannot be elected again. I feel sorry for those less fortunate than me. I hope they find comfort through all the crises we have.

Linny,
Who is they? A bunch of Saudi Arabians flew planes into the world trade centre. Remember Saudi Arabia, the US's best pal?
That would be like if someone was bullying you in the schoolyard and you punched out some totally different kid in retaliation.

As for the whole whether Bush won the election thing, I was just reading a great article in Harpers about how he may not have won the second election either. I love how the Americans are so proud of their democracy, but I don't see any evidence of them actually having a democracy.

I love Michael Moore. Long live Michael Moore.

Also here's an article about how most, if not all, of the suffering from Katrina is Bush's fault too, check it out:

I think Micheal Moore is doing a GREAT justice to the world when he points out all of the inconsistencies in the Bush Administration. Of course, i'm allowed to like him.....How could you NOT? didnt you see Bowling For Columbine? What a powerful movie!

I am just uncertain as to when people say "They attacked us", who are you referring to??? Who are "they"?

Linny...it's normal to feel vengeful in these situations, to hate those who have wronged you...but before anyone goes pointing the finger saying "They Attacked US!!!" Please identify WHO "THEY" infact are!

It's true, that Al Queida, and Taliban forces were in Afghanistan after 9/11..but bush did not seek them out for 2 months after the attack...and CERTINALY did nothing to stop Bin Laden family members from escaping the country! But to bomb Iraq because Bush "felt" that they were harboring terrorists, it's Ludicrous! Terror was Instilled into the American public, after 9/11...Bush needed someone to blame....and who better than a nation sitting on a large oil reserve!

George W. Bush an So-and-so

Who did you vote for for President and why? Where did you get the info. that made you want to vote for him. I voted for George W. B. He is a Christian like me and shares my beliefs. Johnny boy supports abortion which I despise because ITS MURDER! War may be murder but you know whats worse than war? Slavery! Some (a lot actually who are slaves) would rather die fighting the enemy than have war

I loved his book even though we don't get a lot of those bullshit political shows he talks about in the book in Canada - thank god!

yup! I met him at a book signing he did when he came to denver like a month before the election. It was taken by my boyfriends camera phone, that's why it's such a blurry picture.
